Hong Kong Cyberport is committed to nurturing ICT industry start-ups and entrepreneurs, and accelerating ICT adoption of the latest technologies and initiatives in different industries in Hong Kong. To address the heated discussions on open data in the society, we are launching the Cyberport Open Data IdeaJam 2015 - a one-day interactive; practical workshop targeting the public, start-ups, individual players and companies in ICT and various business sectors working together to inspire new ideas on collection, analysis, management and use of data information for ICT-related applications in different industries and in our daily lives.

Outstanding teams with brilliant and creative ideas will win great prizes and the Champion will be invited to attend the interview session of the Cyberport Creative Micro Fund (CCMF) or Cyberport Incubation Programme.

How It Works:

09:00 - 10:30 | Idea Pitches and Team Formation


To start, all participants will discuss, brainstorm and present their ideas on the development and use of open data, and form teams of maximum 4 people each.


10:30 - 17:00 | Coding, Prototyping and Presentation Development


Teams will take references of the data sources available in the market and the sample datasets provided on event day to write codes, prepare prototypes and presentation materials for pitching.

Open data related industry professionals are invited to host breakout sessions to share their experiences on open data development, and participants are free to join.

17:15 - 18:30 | Idea Showcase and Presentation


Each team will have 3 minutes to pitch their idea using PowerPoint and/or video presentation to the judging panel, followed by a 2-minute Q&A session. The panel will evaluate the idea according to the assessment criteria and select 3 outstanding ideas.


Winners will be announced with prize presentation at the end of the event.
